ORANGE COUNTY SUMMER CLASSIC PICKLEBALL TOURNAMENT JULY 2023

TOURNAMENT FORMAT:

THIS IS A ROUND-ROBIN TOURNAMENT. This means you will play 3 matches with 3 different teams whether you win or lose. After playing all 3 teams, the winner of each bracket will be determined by the most wins per bracket. If there is a tie for matches won, the tiebreaker will defer to the greatest point differential for each of the teams that are in the tie. If there is a tie for point differential, the tiebreaker will defer to the sequence of wins; the first team to have lost a game or match loses the tiebreak. If all three conditions are a tie, the tied teams will play a quick tiebreaker game with the first to score 3 points as the winner.

DIVISIONS FOR BRACKETS:

The divisions for each bracket are grouped by skill and age. Teams can play up in skill level, but not down. The rating category is for a team average, so it is possible for an individual player to be above the skill level for the bracket, as long as the teammate’s rating averages the team’s rating to be under the limit of skill level for the bracket. Skill levels are 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, and 4.5. Age levels are also set. Age groups are shown as 9+ which means any age can play in it, as well as a 50+ group which means only those who turn 50 or are older than 50 in the current year, can play in that bracket.

BRACKETS:

Brackets of four (4) players/teams will be created based on your ratings. Four (4) matches will be scheduled for each bracket. These brackets provide about 3 hours of playing time and anywhere from 8-12 games to 11 points. If your bracket has less than 4 teams, it may be merged with another bracket. If your bracket is merged and has more than 4 teams, then the order of matches will be that each round’s winning teams will play each other in the next round, so rematches with prior losing teams may occur.

MATCH FORMAT:

Matches are played with games to 11 points, each player/team must win by 2 points, and each match is won by winning 2 out of 3 games. The number of games won will determine the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners per bracket. If there is a tie on the number of games won, then the biggest point differential will determine the tie break. We will follow IFP and USAP published rules for the year. The Tournament Director and administration reserve the right to deviate from those published rules and will make any exceptions known to the players during their orientation.

You can pay for your registration here by clicking on the correct tickets that you would like to register and play in. Each ticket is for one player only, not a team.

WITHDRAWALS & REFUNDS:

Refunds for withdrawals may be requested up until 5 days before the tournament. If you are withdrawn from a tournament by the tournament administration, you will receive a refund. If you are removed from a tournament for misconduct, there will be no refund.
